Description and Rules

  • Defeat all the world bosses in reverse order, then defeat K. Rool to beat the game.

The Route

  • VERY IMPORTANT: At some point you need to grind for lives. This is due to the amount of times you'll be setting up the split-up glitch (Tricks). Most runners grab a few balloons in Jungle Hijinx. If you take a few deaths here and there it's important you keep track of how many lives you currently have and if you have to get some more.
  • Follow the Any% route of your own choosing, Defeat Master Necky snr. Re-enter world 6 and clear Tanked up Trouble.

1-1 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch
  • Play a' la All Stages up until the halfway barrel. Make sure you grab it for future warps.
  • Dismount Rambi, throw the DK-barrel and re-mount Rambi. Make sure you're facing left when you're re-mounting.
  • Jump into the mincer, keep holding LEFT and Y, press A when Donkey grabs the barrel. Wiggle into the bonus
  • Roll into the Klaptraps to warp to 1-1.
  • The game still thinks you're in 6-2 because you never technically "exited" or died there, so it's important that you take a death in 1-1 and not start-select out.

Here's a 1-1 warp that basically has zero chance for failure, it's a bit slower though.

5-3 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch and play a' la any% up until you reach the bonus.
  • This Y release is a 3 frame window, using pause buffers is highly suggested.
  • Find a somewhat reliable visual cue, pause, release Y, Unpause.
  • Enter the bonus and dual-exit warp like in any%.

Additional Notes

  • This is the hardest category to complete in the game! You can softlock in many sections, forcing you to reset, and the warps are very difficult, so it is *strongly* recommended to run all stages/101% for a long while before trying to pick this up.
  • This guide assumes you are familiar with the speedrun, and is just a more detailed explanation of the tricks. Watch the original recording when needed to reference the movement at your own pace.
  • The beginning of the speedrun up to the World 6 boss is identical to any%.
  • This route only works properly on 1.0 (U) version of DKC1. You need a slightly different route to run 1.1, but the fundamentals are the same. 1.1 requires you to play an extra half of a stage, so it's slower, but makes one certain warp easier.
  • You can watch Fathlo23's 32:28 PB for an example of the 1.1 route here.
