Game Donkey Kong Country
Category Names Reverse Boss Order, RBO
Leaderboards here

Description and Rules

  • Defeat all the world bosses in reverse order, then defeat K. Rool to beat the game.

The Route

  • VERY IMPORTANT: At some point you need to grind for lives. This is due to the amount of times you'll be setting up the split-up glitch (Tricks). Most runners grab a few balloons in Jungle Hijinx. If you take a few deaths here and there it's important you keep track of how many lives you currently have and if you have to get some more.
  • Follow the Any% route of your own choosing, Defeat Master Necky snr. Re-enter world 6 and clear Tanked up Trouble.

1-1 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch.
  • Play a' la All Stages up until the halfway barrel. Make sure you grab it for future warps.
  • Dismount Rambi, throw the DK-barrel and re-mount Rambi. Make sure you're facing left when you're re-mounting.
  • Jump into the mincer, keep holding LEFT and Y, press A when Donkey grabs the barrel. Wiggle into the bonus
  • Roll into the Klaptraps to warp to 1-1.
  • The game still thinks you're in 6-2 because you never technically "exited" or died there, so it's important that you take a death in 1-1 and not start-select out.

Here's a 1-1 warp that basically has zero chance for failure, it's a bit slower though.

5-3 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch and play a' la any% up until you reach the bonus.
  • This Y release is a 3 frame window, using pause buffers is highly suggested.
  • Find a somewhat reliable visual cue, pause, release Y, Unpause.
  • Enter the bonus and dual-exit warp like in any%.
  • Clear World 5 All Stages style and then re-enter World 6.

4-5 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch.
  • Re-enter Mincers and throw the DK-Barrel
  • Jump over the pit and have Diddy grab the barrel, put it down and grab it back up quickly to give Donkey an invisible object.
  • Bounce on the Krusha with Diddy to kill it, Donkey is still holding the Invisible object.
  • Jump back up to the left with Diddy, run left until you de-spawn the bonus, run back to the right and re-spawn the bonus.
  • Donkey PUTS DOWN the invisible object, Diddy enters the bonus and takes a death.
  • Once again clear the rest of World 4 a' la All Stages. HOWEVER, sacrifice Diddy in Gnawty for the cycle-skip. Re-enter World 6.

1-3 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch
  • Enter Mincers and throw the DK-Barrel.
  • Do the put-down-re-grab barrel thingy TWICE to give Diddy an invisible object.
  • Jump over the Krusha and open the bonus by running into it with Donkey.
  • Wait a bit so you don't kill the Krusha when you're jumping to the other side.
  • De-spawn and Re-spawn the bonus, backboost off the Krusha and into the bonus with Diddy still holding the barrel.
  • Clear Reptile, Capers and mapwarp after Capers. Clear World 3 and sack Diddy in Queen Bee.
  • Enter World 6.
  • If you mess up the warp you'll probably end up in 1-2, you can clear it and do the same mapwarp as in All Stages as a backup.

2-3 Warp

  • Set up the Split-Up Glitch the same way as last time.
  • This time grab the TNT Barrel.
  • Jump over the Krusha, Put the TNT Barrel down, quickly throw the DK-Barrel and regrab the TNT Barrel, doesn't matter whether Donkey or Diddy re-grabs the Barrel.
  • Position yourself as shown in the video.
  • Do the put-down-re-grab thingy ONCE, then crouch, let go of Y, wait for a little bit and re-press Y. The TNT barrel should be attached to Diddy without holding it if done correctly.
  • Run over to the other barrel and do the put-down-re-grab thingy TWICE as with the 1-3 warp. Then jump over to the other side and have Donkey kill the Krusha by standing still.
  • Move as shown in the video.
  • Run towards the bonus with Diddy, pause at a very specific spot, Press DOWN-LEFT, Let go of Y, Unpause.
  • This warp is very difficult, if you mess it up and end up somewhere else you can START-SELECT back to W6, set up the Split-Up Glitch and try again.
  • Clear World 2 and return to World 6.

1-3 Warp Again

  • Perform the 1-3 Warp a second time, if you have enough lives fall down in the first available pit. It's faster than taking damage on an enemy or clearing the stage. If you had to clear 1-2 and use the All Stages Mapwarp before You'll have to clear the stage + Capers.
  • After that Clear Barrel Cannon Canyon, Kill Gnawty jr. And Beat K.Rool.

Congrats! That's RBO!

Additional Notes

  • This is the hardest category to complete in the game! You can softlock in many sections, forcing you to reset, and the warps are very difficult, so it is *strongly* recommended to run all stages/101% for a long while before trying to pick this up.
  • This guide assumes you are familiar with the speedrun, and is just a more detailed explanation of the tricks. Watch the original recording when needed to reference the movement at your own pace.
  • The beginning of the speedrun up to the World 6 boss is identical to any%.
  • This route only works properly on 1.0 (U) version of DKC1. You need a slightly different route to run 1.1, but the fundamentals are the same. 1.1 requires you to play an extra half of a stage, so it's slower, but makes one certain warp easier.
  • You can watch Fathlo23's 32:28 PB for an example of the 1.1 route here.
