Safe

  • This video mostly follows the same route as the optimal video, with the hardest jumps left out.
  • The first roll seems unoptimal, but by jumping out of the roll 'too late' you are able to cut the corner into the Toboggan. This is approximately the same speed as immediately jumping out of the roll, walking into the Toboggan and breaking open a DK barrel later.
  • You only have to press B to release the Toboggan from the railings.
  • In general you want to ride down slopes and avoid riding up slopes. The railings do not slow you down unlike the SNES version.
  • At 1:17 release the d-pad to get shot further.

Optimal

  • The bounces on the Buzzers at 0:13 saves approximately 0.45 seconds compared to the safe video. This bounce is not always consistent. If you take damage on the first Buzzer, you can almost alway still bounce on the second Buzzer. In this situation you lose approximately 1.1 seconds compared to the safe video.
    • The bounce seems to have the highest success rate if you release the Tobbogan from the railing around the following spot:

  • To the best of your ability, avoid getting hit. A hit will cause you to lose all your speed. It is better to opt out of some of the more difficult jumps than failing them.
  • Bouncing off enemies from below, such as at 0:28 and 0:40, is quite lenient.
  • Bouncing on the bottom Buzzers without touching the top one can be tough. Alternatively you can do small bounces from below on the Buzzers separately.
  • The pit jumps are quite precise, as you cannot buffer the jumps.
  • The jump at 0:51 particularly is difficult as there is a small window between jumping too early (which will cause you to land on the ledge of the next pit and take damage on the right wall of that pit) and jumping too late (which will get you hit by the right wall of the current pit). You can alternatively do two small jumps out of the pits.
