  • There are no bonuses in water levels, so this level looks the same in either category.
  • The up button and B button have no effect for the Kongs underwater in this game.
  • That DK barrel looks tempting since it's the first floating DK barrel in the game and doesn't require a pickup, but Donkey swims so slow horizontally that he loses about a second just reaching it. Make sure to have Diddy in front at the start of the level.
  • When you enter the box, whatever speed you have is transferred to Enguarde when he spawns. Enguarde moves really fast but his acceleration is quite slow. By approaching the box from the side and jumping into it you can give Enguarde a good amount of initial upwards momentum which saves a considerable amount of time over descending directly into the box and turning around after he spawns.
  • Enguarde can build horizontal speed against walls, but not vertical speed. Therefore it's fine to push against walls horizontally but important not to bonk ceilings or floors while turning. This principle applies to the Kongs as well but it's much less significant.
  • Enguarde's stabs cannot be buffered, if you press the button 1 frame too early the stab will be dropped. Rolling across both buttons is one method to try to go for optimal stabs but keep a backup press in case the first press is too early. Ultimately the number of stabs is what matters, not how far apart they are (although this is clearly a controlling factor).
  • Stabs do not have to be frame perfect to be optimal. The cooldown depends on Enguarde's wiggle animation and has sort of a 5 frame cycle to it: meaning if you are up to 5 frames late, it will still end on the same frame and not lose any time.
  • At 0:36 it's recommended to only do 6 stabs instead of 7 so you don't hit the shark.
  • Water levels do strange things to the random number generator, which matters in 87% for manipulating Candy's Challenge 3. The RNG manipulation route may depend on exiting this level relatively fast (pending further investigation), although if it does then you have at least a few seconds of leeway to still get it so your movement doesn't have to be perfect here.
