  • This is a pretty dynamic autoscroller. Although you can't control your speed with the D pad, it is affected by the slopes. Utilizing them optimally saves around 3 seconds over doing the level casually.
  • Down slopes speed you up, and up slopes slow you down. The key to going fast is to jump over the up slopes, and off the down slopes. For down slopes, the tradeoff between jumping at the top to get more height vs jumping at the bottom to get more distance usually balances out, so you just need to focus on jumping during the steepest portion of the slope when your speed is maxed out. Your speed is also reduced to below the base speed for 1 frame upon landing, which makes bunny hopping to preserve speed impossible. You can buffer jumps, but you will jump with the slow landing speed which is unoptimal.
  • Gravity glitch applies in this level, if you hold A through an entire jump you will get floaty gravity which applies as the mine cart is falling.
  • At the start, it's optimal to jump as late as possible and get into the blast barrel as you're moving up. If you don't have your second Kong, there are no hazards before the midpoint and second DK barrel so you can wait to grab the floating DK barrel instead of picking up the one at the start.
  • Places where the end of the track is broken are usually not actually sloped down and won't grant a speed boost. At 0:12 the track slopes up briefly and then actually flattens out again so it saves a few frames to jump late.
  • Jumping upwards through a platform avoids the landing frame speed reduction.
  • Before the O it's best to jump from as late as possible before the track break.
  • At 0:28 you want to get gravity glitch before the next section during this jump over the gap in the upwards sloped part. If you jump too early you will collide with the track on the way up and not get gravity glitch. An indicator of this is if you hear the landing "squeak" on the way up.
  • If you got gravity glitch correctly you'll float to the track with the Enguarde token and be able to jump off this section, which gives the biggest speed boost in the level. This strat is risky since if you didn't get gravity glitch, you'll fall into the gap and die. Sometimes it'll still fail even if you didn't hear the early landing squeak during the previous jump. The safer option is to simply jump from the slope at the top. This option is only a few tenths of a second slower.
  • Jumping up to the star barrel platform can save a frame since you get a tiny speed boost from falling off the ledge.
  • You can do a risky late jump at 0:39 to jump with normal speed instead of reduced up-slope speed.
  • At 0:42, release jump slightly earlier to make sure you don't crash into the cart ahead.
  • Grabbing the swag balloon may lose a frame since you get a tiny speed boost from falling off the ledge above, but intentinally not going for it is illegal.
  • You can get another aggressive late jump from the edge of the upwards sloped track at 1:09 to get normal speed. If you get this jump you'll need to release A earlier.
  • Don't Krash at the end.
