The lack of obstacles or Enguarde, and relative simplicity of underwater Kong movement, make this boring water level practically an autoscroller. Perhaps a much needed break during such a fast paced run?

  • Quick review of underwater Kong mechanics: The up button and B button have no effect. You can build speed against walls and get instant upwards speed via jumping, so it's fine to grind against walls in these directions, but you can't build speed against floors. Therefore it's theoretically optimal to cut corners in the downwards direction, but you accelerate downwards so quickly that the benefit is negligible. Diddy is about 20% faster than DK in all directions except up, so if you have DK in front for any reason, swap him out immediately.
  • The Squidge at 0:10 can occasionally get you. If he does, don't go back for the DK barrel, just grab the next one.
  • It's actually slightly faster to hold left early during the blast barrel shot at 1:16. Once the fixed speed of the barrel shot ends, you will be considered "tumbling" until you hit the ground. By holding left you can keep the tumbling speed for slightly longer, and this speed is a bit faster than swimming.
  • At 1:22 it's theoretically slightly faster to swing around the downwards corners, but the potential time save from doing this is so small and doing it unoptimally loses time, so it's fine to just hold down and left.
  • Enguarde theoretically saves up to 2 seconds at the end, but for a human this is likely closer to 1-1.5 seconds, so it's generally fine to skip him as a safer/easier route. The camera will be messed up while transitioning to and from the Enguarde area. On the way in, try to move through the gaps without bonking any of the platforms and avoid the shark. On the way out, avoid the croctopus and count your stabs to help determine when to start moving down.
  • To move optimally with Enguarde, try not to bonk ceilings/floors.
